Description

With its hot, dry summers, deep-rooted and phylloxera-free bush vines, and frequent drought, Barossa Valley has given birth to a bombastic, fruit-forward, full-bodied Shiraz style that’s recognized worldwide.

As one half of the greater Barossa district, Barossa Valley, inland from the West Coast of South Australia, has become the focal point of Australia’s signature chocolatey, peppery, burnt-blueberry-pie-flavored Shiraz, and as a result has attracted a multitude of big-name international wine corporations looking to cash in on ripe, high-alcohol juice.

Highest quality can be found in the northwest and central parts of the valley, where ancient vines are tucked away. The critic of all critics, and educator of all educators, Jancis Robinson, has noted that these special regions may soon become formal subregions, as producers seek to tease out the geographical distinctions within the valley and articulate the history and heritage behind the vines.
